PRE-WAX ADVICE

How to prepare yourself for you next wax appointment.

  • Check hair growth

The hairs need to be ½cm - 1cm long (about the size of a grain of rice) to ensure the wax holds enough grip to pull the hair from the root. Waxing with shorter hair can cause hair breakage which can lead to ingrown hairs and further irritation.

  • Wear loose and comfortable clothing to your appointment

This allows the skin to breath and heal opposed to tight clothes that may cause friction and be very irritating to the skin after your appointment.

  • Lightly exfoliate the area 24 hours before your appointment

This assists in removing the dead skin cells allowing the wax to grip more effectively to the hair for a smoother finish.

  • Avoid fake tanning before your appointment

Waxing is a form of exfoliation and can remove the first layer of skin when applied. Fake tan is at risk of being pulled off with the wax if freshly applied before the appointment.

POST-WAX ADVICE

How to maintain your results after your appointment

  • Exfoliate

Exfoliate 24 - 48 hours after the appointment, continuing 2-3 times a week. Exfoliating too soon after waxing can lead to inflammation, infection and ingrown hairs. Exfoliating will help you shed those unwanted dead skin cells to ensure you maintain smooth and radiant skin.

  • Moisturise

Moisturising is crucial for long lasting, hydrating and smooth skin! Find which moisturisers work best for you (fragrance free lotions or gentle oils) and stay consistent. To hydrate yourself from the inside out, make sure you are drinking on average 1-2L of water every day.

  • Sun / heat exposure

During the next following days after waxing its important to use SPF50+ sunscreen to protect your already vulnerable skin. Direct sun / heat exposure can make it more difficult for your skin to heal. Its recommended to wait 24 - 48 hours before tanning and soaking up the sun to avoid any irritation or infection.

  • Swimming / activities

24 hours of recovery time is recommended to avoid activities that may cause excessive sweating or friction in the waxed area (e.g. strenuous exercise, saunas and sexual intercourse). Chlorine and salt water can be harsh on the vulnerable skin which may lead to redness, bumps, irritation and itching. Its so important to give your skin that 24 hours to recover, especially if your skin is very sensitive.

Waxing is a temporary hair removal method that has been practiced for many years. At The Comfort Room, we offer professional waxing services for nearly every area of the body. Waxing also acts as a form of exfoliation and can leave the skin temporarily more sensitive. Healing and recovery time may vary depending on your skin type and individual response. As your waxing specialist, it’s my responsibility to guide you through proper before and aftercare to help protect your skin and extend your results between our sessions.
